I am Youthful. I am Ignorant

"While I lived the life of youth in ignorance and hope." Youth, ignorance and innocence are three parallel ideas. Without one the others cannot exist, therefore when ignorance is lost, so is youth and innocence. The ideas in the story "Youth", written by Joseph Conrad, discuss one man's journey's through life who throughout his journey discovers more and more about himself. His actions in the story show his apparent "Youth! The test, the trial of life...", which is displayed to be more of an outlook on life instead of an age category.Actions and words throughout the story show youth as being ignorant and naive. When Marlow, the protagonist, and another man go to the base of the ship where an awful smell lingers, the man tells Marlow, "This doesn't smell healthy..." and Marlow replies "It is good for the health."and the two continue forward, getting swallowed more and more by the smell. They get to the cargo which is on board at the base of the ship and find the coal to b


This is shown as the captain, who was "sixty, if a day. " It is his naivity that Marlow uses to base his strength and manhood on. After this the men on the boat had finally learned their lesson and tried fishing the men's bodies up with a chain and a hook. As described in this story youth is not displayed as an age, but more as an outlook on life that can only come from an innocent, ignorant state of mind. Youth may not fall into any specific age bracket. " All of Marlow's actions throughout the story may show inexperience, but he lives an exciting life that some people may only dream of. Even though the duties may be absurd his ignorance and inexperience causes him once again to go ahead and act instead of thinking first, and acting second. ", is still living adventures out at sea at such a fragile age.
