. . .
As in the saying "the gull sees farthest who flies highest" he gains many knowledges by knowing two other seagulls from a different world, a world where all the gulls are outcasts and where all the gulls live to fly! This encourages Jon to live a very positive life and he achieves it. 'He carries on flying and gains the things that he had once hoped for the other gulls. Jon 's sorrow was seeing his fellow gulls refusing to believe the glory of flight. This leads to casting Jonathan out and at the end he is not allowed to come back to his flock. He himself helps other younger gulls to find the true meaning of life and helps the gulls who are desperate in learning to fly. He conflicts with the seagulls who think that what given around them shouldn't be challenged nor discovered. They made him stand to center for shame because of his reckless irresponsibility and because he violated the tradition and the dignity of the gull family. The seagulls in this flock fly to catch fish not to enjoy themselves. It is not said in the book that Jon actually goes to the world but it says that Chiang has a desire of going back to the flock as he vanishes into the atmosphere. This book ends with Jon vanishing in to the atmosphere while his own pupil Fletcher Lynd gull realize the true meanings of life and love by teaching other gulls. At the end he vanishes to another world maybe into the world of his past. Chiang requires Jon to realize the meaning of love.
