Writing an article for publication in Time magazine requires a well rounded and dedicated journalist. There are many journalist all over the world who hope to one day have thier work published in Time Magazine. An author must know his or her subject matter through and through. The author must also express main points without making a long and drawn out story. A great example of a good writing can be found in an article called "Homicide in the Sky" by Pete Owens. In this article, Owens talks about the death of a passenger aboard a Southwest Airlines flight. Owens' article is very descriptive. It made me feel as if I had experienced this event first hand. Owens starts out by saying " August 19th, 2001,just 17,000 ft. above Salt Lake City, Utah flight 1763 set the controls for a midnight landing, flight attendants at the back begin collecting coke cups and pretzel bags. Suddenly John Burton, 19, juped in to the aisle from his seat near the wing. " This was a great way to start out an article, it gives the reader a sense of the time and surrondings. Owens' article was not only very descriptive, it was also very well reasearched. It is obivious when you read the article, that Owens' went to many different people and got their accounts. Not only did he describewhat happend aboard the plane but he also gives a detailed account of the history of John Burton. "Burton, wearing a baseball cap and khakis, was going to visit his aunt. He had grown up in Las Vegas and had been a popular wrestler in high school. He had earned an award for helping elderly people. The night before, he and his mother Janet watched a TV special about air crashes. He mentioned the show to his mother on the drive to the airport but seemed fine, she says when she kissed him goodbye at the gate. Burtons strange behavior during the flight was noticed by some passengers even before his outbursts." I look forward to reading another article from Owens in the n...
