As America faces another showdown against Iraq, the Mideast conflict is possibly the single most important factor for our country's war against terrorism. To fully understand the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, one must know the history of the region. This paper will attempt to provide an objective view on the situation and offer a plan for lasting peace in the region.An individual might begin this discussion in early times (3000 B.C.). However finding solid, factual data from this period is challenging, and often the facts vary depending on from which perspective the data is written. Britain also promised the creation of an independent Arab state. But the true facts are that Jordan is the only Arab state to grant citizenship to the Palestinians that live there. In 1993 Israel and the PLO signed the Oslo Agreement. Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and (note for current importance) Iraq attacked Israel in 1948. The first Intifada (uprising) occurred in 1987. When World War II started millions of Jews were murdered by Hitler's forces. In 1967, Israel won the Six Day War and took control of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Israel's withdraw was a breath of fresh air to a delicate situation.
