A Critical Analysis of
Nectar in a Sieve shows the ignorance and also innocence of poor families in India. Most of India's population is poor and therefore this book gives a clear understanding of the lives of most families in India. It is apparent that Indians live my the rules of "survival of the fittest," but it seems that they focus more on survival itself rather th
an planning for the future to produce better lives for themselves. Through the immense suffering that Rukmani and her family endured there is still that optimistic attitude which helps them to survive. The story provides hope for the poor families and inspires people to use the resources and gifts that they have been given for good. The strength of these people is to be admired. This provides us with a thought-provoking question: Do these people have any control over their states of poverty? Could they really get out if they wanted to? Perhaps this book describes a realistic lifestyle, which serves as a cry for help for the poor people in India. This book teaches the reader to appreciate the good things that he has been given in life and not to take for granted simple things like a filling meal at dinner time. These people seem to take life as it comes at them and assume that they have no control over their futures.
