Film Synopsis Dancing On My Grave

Dancing On My Grave is the story of one woman’s struggle to defeat the demons within her and the power of the human spirit.

To triumph over her demons, Gelsey must overcome her drug addiction, her insecurities and her anorexia to become a woman who is emotionally confident and able to dance again.

Gelsey, a star member of The American Ballet Theatre, is at the peak of her career when a society older and wiser than she is begin to heavily influence her lifestyle with drugs.

We flash back to when Gelsey is a young and impressionable girl at the beginnings of her career. We follow her success as she gains entry into the American Ballet Theatre and become aware

With the power of the human spirit Gelsey pulls herself through the lowest echelons of personal depression to triumph over her demons and take her place as one of the worlds greatest Ballerinas.

As one of Americas favourite performers Gelsey’s desire to understand her emotions and her diverse insecurities find her in a dangerous circle of sex, drugs and anorexia in a desperate bid to be loved and to be perfect. This obsession is what creates her ultimate downfall and manifest itself in her anorexia and her insecurities – her demons. Dancing is all she believed in and with this gone Gelsey is at the very lowest point in her life and her demons in full force.

Within this new and high rolling society Gelsey is introduced to Mikhail Barashnikov.

Mikhail sees that Gelsey leave behind George Balachine, the man who ‘discovered’ her, to defect to rival ballet company the New York City Ballet.

With out dancing Gelsey is left with out Mikhail or any sense of self worth.

. She dives further into self-depression and drugs and sees no way out to save herself.

Desiring to fit in with those around her and to be perfect she spirals further into self-destructive patterns while at the New York City Ballet and this behaviour eventually sees the end of her dancing career. of her growing insecurities and her unnatural obsession to be perfect.

Gelsey must now struggle to overcome this destructive pattern she has developed to stay alive and restore herself to the dancer she once was, for without dance she has nothing.

Her demons and desire to be loved lead her to be fooled by him as he demolishes any self-respect she has left and leaves her totally dependent on him.

This begins the demise of Gelseys dancing career and further cements her dependent and desperate situation. We see the power of the human spirit as Gelsey struggles to leave behind her anorexia and her obsession to be perfect as well as the dependent and destructive lifestyle she has developed with drugs.
