Euthanasia

             Imagine a woman who is ninety-five years old. She can't walk, she can't see, and she can barely breathe let alone speak. Her life was well lived those past ninety-five years. This woman is in such unbearable pain that she can't even cry. Her arthritis is taking over her entire body, she can't move. Although this woman's family is there for her every step of the way she begins to think, could ending her life be the answer to her pain? She is contemplating putting euthanasia into effect. In this woman's opinion she cannot live her life on her own any longer, she is in more pain than she can bear. There is no way that this woman could function without assistance. She thinks and feels as if her life has no meaning.
             Well in all reality this isn't something anyone needs to imagine. This is a real situation for many, many people. These people should be able to make their own choices and have control of their own lives. Euthanasia is a choice all people should have the right to make for themselves.
             What is euthanasia many might ask? Euthanasia is the ending of human life by artificial means with the assistance of another human being. Euthanasia is also known as "Mercy killing" or "Assisted suicide." (Rutman) Euthanasia is currently illegal in the United States of America and is neither legal nor illegal in many other countries. (3A) Euthanasia pertains particularly to senior citizens or to terminally ill patients awaiting a
             deathbed. In 1993, Dr. Jack Kavorkian, a United States pathologist was convicted of assisted murder. Assisted murder is also known as murder in the second degree or murder two. Dr. Kavorkian was actually performing the task of euthanasia on patients of his own who desired it and who he felt, needed to end their life. (Davis)
