Even though Queens and Brooklyn are not the busiest areas in New York, they still have a lot of business and people living there. Because the public transportation system in the City does not cover the entire Metropolitan area, as a result commuters can easily take up to at least one and a half hours to get to their workplaces; therefore so many people prefer to drive.
             For example, if you want to go to Brooklyn from Flushing by public transportation, it has to take you at least two hours, because all the subways and buses are designed for people to get into the city, you have to get to Manhattan first then transfer to other areas. But on the other hand, even if you decided to drive, it only has two ways for you, one is take the 678 then Belt parkway, the other is the Long Island Expressway then Brooklyn- Queens Expressway. If you are lucky, it will only take you half an hour to drive to there, but if it has traffic jam which it usually does, it will take you at least two hours. There is no direct cross-town subway line, if one has to travel from one place to another, the train heads to Manhattan first, as a result, commuters have to spend more time on the train, thus they are more reluctant to take public transportation in case of a rush situation.
             First of all, let me talk about the JFK airport, JFK is located in the southeastern section of Queens County, New York City, on Jamaica Bay. It is fifteen miles by highway from midtown Manhattan. JFK consists of 4,930 acres, including 880 acres in the central terminal area. The airport has more than 30 miles of roadways. The total amount of the flights in 1999 was 339597, and it carried more than thirty-one millions of passengers.
