Physical Activity

This paper discusses the study of physical activity of six different individuals. Each individual was personally selected through random order with each individual known to the researcher. It particularly looks at each person's demographics, which includes gender, age, range and occupation. Also it looks at the time period in which each person lived within the areas specified. These data will be presented in graphs and tables and would be compared and contrasted to present which physical activity is For each individual's involved in the assignment I have decided to refer to them after what subject they are (ie. "Subject #1K Does not enjoy physical exercise"), leaving their real identity only with myself, with their other thoughts and information still Is a male student from the Central Queensland University and is currently in his 3rd year of Engineering. Originally from the Cook Islands in the Pacific Ocean.Subject one believes that exercise and physical fitness is a very important part of our daily lives.Other back-ground details include that he is a non-smoker, he hardly drinks and hehas always been involved with physica

I think that it is more important to have fun in what ever you do than worrying about sticking to a regimented program which only stresses about physical aspect of sport. What factors motivate subject two to continue physical activity ( if you where in one)"« Well motivation as I said I have none"« Too get somewhere in rugbyK if I played rugby"« To get fit"« It would make me quit smoking that's for sure! What factors motivate subject two to stop physical activity"« Money"« Means of transport/ location"« Loss of interest"« Injury/sicknessWhen/ If subject two stops the physical activity that he is involved in what would help recommence the activity"« Motivation "« Peers/ friendsWhat are the percieved and potential benefits of a physical activity program"« Healthier lifestyles"« Good physique"« Muscles"« Social interactionWhich activity or program characteristics appeal to youWell as mentioned before I am currently not into any sort of phyiscal activity nor exercise. APPENDIX 3DemographicsGender: maleAge Range: 50-55Occupation: mechanical-design Engineer in Papua New Guinea for PNGFPLength of time residing in area: 25th year nowOther info:"« Originally from the Philippines"« Is married with three children who are 18, 20, 25 years old now"« Has a history of having high blood pressure problems in the family"« Plays golf, and goes for walks every day/ second day"« Is non-smoker"« Has cut down on alcohol (with the exception of brandy)Types of programs involved in & the length of time(i)Golf"« Started in 1980 V19 years now"« Play every second day ( club competitions are on Saturday's) (i)Walking"« "« For many years now (except when damaged nerve in spine/ lower back)"« At least 3 kilometres a day(i)= individual (g) = groupWhat factors motivate subject three to continue physical activity "« To keep healthy"« Something to keep mind off work"« Just enjoying the sceneryWhat factors motivate subject three to stop physical activity"« Injury to lower back"« Sickness"« Over time in work"« The time of year, when it gets busy at workWhen/ If subject three stops the physical activity that he is involved in what would help recommence the activity"« Encouragement"« To get back on my feetWhat are the percieved and potential benefits of a physical activity program"« Healthier lifestyles"« A little exercise every day is healthy for you"« Healthy body"³ healthy mindWhich activity or program characteristics appeal to youGolf"« Enjoyment of others company/ competitiveness Walking/jogs"« Enjoyment of scenery"« Keep you on your feet and healthyWhich activity or program characteristics don't appeal/ are a distraction to you"« Personal identity clashes with other people in club"« Club management (golf club)What is the single most important issue that makes physical exercise appealing"« Concept of healthy body, healthy mindWhat is the single most important issue that makes physical exercise unappealing"« The time management "³ from work to getting out on the golf courseParticaipant's summaryHaving a fairly stressful job and having the problem with having high blood pressure I think that it is very important to have the time to go out in the fresh air and exercise at least 3 times a week. Subject five knows that smoking is bad for his health and clearly wishes to quit, and who knows maybe in the near future he may get to do exactly that. But what is Physical Activity? This can be easily defined into two simple types;"« Health related &"« Sports performance-related. Subject two is now a full time chain smoker, who tries often to give up only to fail with his siblings who don't help in any way, with their dirty habits being worse than his. This individual is still fairly young only in the 20-25 year old range and is currently single. Having the support from his wife and friends, he now knows that Physical activity even at the lowest form can be very helpful to him. In these programs subject one is involved in, he believes that the potential benefits that are gained from each of the three activities are overall positive. What factors motivate subject one to continue physical activity "« motivation"« to become physically fit"« to be healthy (in general)What factors motivate subject one to stop physical activity"« none When/ If subject one stops the physical activity that he is involved in what would help him recommence the activity"« motivation ( as above)"« surrounding peersWhat are the percieved and potential benefits of a physical activity program"« a good physique"« a whole concept; healthy body healty mind"« fitness, mucles development"« that being in a group oriented sport/activity, it teaches you how to be"« a better person in general"« more interactive/ social towards othersWhich activity or program characteristics appeal to youSwimming"« works out most of the muscles in your bodyGym"« builds mucles"« a toned body from weightsWhich activity or program characteristics don't appeal/ are a distraction to you None What is the single most important issue that makes physical exercise appealing"« To have a clear, precise and methodical, easy to follow programWhat is the single most important issue that makes physical exercise unappealing"« Opposite to aboveParticaipant's summaryRegular physical activityKK. For example subject three has lower back problems and plays golf and has simple walks, and these activities that he is involved in are perfect matches to the criteria of the health related type of physical activity. So according to subject six "physical activity is a means of getting the body into shape both in mind and body, I personally believe that the more you put in the more you get out of". )the type of program that subject one is involved in is pracitcally regular and individually based on his own time so it is individual. What has been found as well as that is that all of the six individuals have some sort of belief that physical activity is good for you and is need as it is an important part of daily life. He completed his secondary studies up in Cairns, where he was involved with many physical activities such as Rugby Union, visiting the Gym daily, and even being involved with the local surf life-saving club out at one of the local beaches.
