Yitzhak Rabin - An Israeli Hero

In his life and in his death Yitzhak Rabin was hero. He showed courage and devotion towards the state of Israel and its people. He took a stand against violence, and tried to unite people in peace. His entire life was dedicated to establishing peace. He started as a gruff soldier, and somehow transferred into the dove he used to scorn (Clyde Haberman, A101). "We should not let the land flowing with milk and honey, become the land flowing with blood and tears," (Yitzhak Rabin)

Rabin was born in Jerusalem on March 1 1922. His father, Nehemieh had immigrated to Israel from the United States and in World War 1 served as a volunteer in the Jewish Legion. His mother, Rosa, was one of the first members of the Haganah. Rabin completed grade school in Tel-Aviv, and then attended the Kedoorie Agricultual college, in lower Galilee. After completing school, he volunteered for the Palmach, where he began his military career. The Palmach is a secret commando unit of the Haganah, the major underground Jewish militia. He served in the Palmach and the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) for 27 years. In 1949 he became a member of the Isreli delegation for the first negotiations with Egypt. For those six years he engineered security arrangements on the Israeli-Lebanese border that allows Israeli troops to withdraw to a narrow security zone. On September 28, 1995, he was a signatory to the Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. We did not imagine the harm would be so great. The first Sambra to be Prime Minister of Israel. He developed the IDF fighting doctine, from the 1967 Six-Day War.

On June 2nd 1974, the Knesset confined in a new government headed by Yitzhak Rabin. He stated that he killed Rabin because Rabin wanted "to give out country to the Arabs (Yigal Amir). In Spring 1973, Rabin returned to Israel, and became very active in the Labor Party. What made him even more special was that he was that he was a Sambra, a native born Israeli.

On January 1st 1968, he retired from service in the IDF.

Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated on November 4th 1995 while attending a peace rally in Tel Aviv. In 1992, Rabin was elected chairman of the Israeli Labor party in it’s first nation wide primaries. He was assassinated by a jewish right-wing extremist.
