The goal of this article is to inform the audience that crime on the Indian Reservations are increasing at a faster rate than in the normal society due to disrepancies between the tribal laws and federal laws.The article began with the study of a literature review and visits to several Indian police departments and the Indian Police Academy in New Mexico. Major lesson(s) you learned from the article:I think that the federal government should monitor the tribal communities and make sure that they follow the rules set by government, but they should let them govern themselves coinciding with their custom values as well. Strengths and weaknesses of the article:This article strength is that it shows why and how the crime is rising in the tribal areas. The central argument(s) of the article:The arguments are that the way the Federal Government handle crimes are much different from the Native Communities. Conclusion(s) of the article:There is a crisis in reservation policing. Implication(s) of the article:This article is implying that if Tribal nations use the framework and idea of Community policing, then their policing techniques and approach should improve and the quality of their work would improve also. When the federal government runs the tribal communities, there is no change or promotion in the tribe compared to when the tribes run themselves. They also studied their police departments and the tribal context in which they operated in in order to understand how the reservations deal with community policing. It also shows that when the federal government steps in and try to take over cultural and traditional ways, conflict arises and there is no improvement.
