Body piercing is commonly done all over the world. Everything from ears, nose, eyebrows, tongue, genitals, lips, naval, and nipples are being pierced. People think nothing of piercing their bodies with ornamental jewelry at various sites, not realizing the complications that can occur if they are not taken care of properly.

In conclusion, people today, primarily in there teens and twenties, are primarily looking to distinguish themselves from the uniformity of modern society. Body modification is the tool that these young adults use to express their individuality. However, as body modification becomes more popular, it becomes contradicting. The youth of modern society are using tribal customs to express diversity but in actuality are forming monotony within their own social group.
To most teenagers today the rage of fashion seems to be body piercing. An ancient tradition turned into a post-modern form of "trendy self expression".
People get piercing for several different reasons. They might not always be the right reason but they still get them. People get body piercing due to peer pressure. Other people get piercing to fit into a certain group that they want to be included into. Some teenagers get piercing to be rebellious against their parents. Others get it done because they see a piercing as something beautiful and want to add that beauty to their own body. Some people even get it done simply for sexual stimulation of that particular body part that is pierced
