             In the opening chapter of William Golding¡s novel, Lord of the Flies, Jack emerges as an organized lad with arrogant of character. Definitely Jack is an organized leader: he has prosperously congregated his choir in a body before Ralph blows the conch and convenes for an assembly. Since all of the children are scattered all over the island when they land, the choir members must have been scattered, too, but Jack has already managed to round up the boys he is responsible for. Jack¡s talent for leadership must not be overlooked. When the choir comes to the meeting, marching in strict military formation, the choir demonstrates both flawless organization and discipline. Furthermore, when Jack shouts out commands, his party complies. And no one dares to contest his orders. Jack is unambiguous about the best way to survive; he explores the unfamiliar land he is standing on by himself before Ralph blows the conch. But Jack is not flawless; he is filled with pride and arrogance. When Jack first meets everyone in public, he wants to be called as ¡§Merridew.¡ (Jack¡s last name) He obviously desires to be the only adult on the island; he deems Jack as a kid¡s name.
