Feedback Essay

Definition : " Feedback is comments or information about the quality or success of something". Feedback comes in two different ways: -1. Positive - this will encourage the performer and fill them with confidence and make them feel good in what they are doing.2. Negative - when this is given by constructive criticism this actually will give determination to the performer and encourage them to do things correctly but when harshly criticised, for example, spectators and the media, this can make a performer feel low which will lose them confidence and hence them not performing as well as they can. Here are the different types of feedback that can be given to the performer, for example there is .........Intrinsic Feedback - this is sometimes referred to as internal or inherent feedback, this type of feedback comes from within the performer from the propriceptors. When a golfer swings at the ball they can feel the timing of the arm movement and the hip movement in conjunction with a perfect strike of the ball. This is also referred to as kinesthetic feedback.Extrinsic Feedback - sometimes referred to as external or augmented feedback, this type of f


Jonathan Cox Media - this is also terminal feedback, which when you are performing well can give the performer a great boost and fill with confidence but if you are playing badly this sort of criticism is not constructive at all and will not help the player to improve in what he is doing wrong. Age/maturity - this is split up into 3 main groups: - 1. Coaches - while teaching you would give extrinsic feedback which would be positive and negative but this time the negative feedback would be constructive criticism, which would not down heart the player but help and encourage him/her on how to improve skilfully and how to put things right. Terminal Feedback - this is feedback received by the performer after they have completed the skill or task. Ability - the higher the ability the more intense and critical the feedback should be to push the performer to their very best. When concerning feedback however there are some factors in how feedback should be put across and how this feedback will be taken in. Emotional state - if very low emotionally feedback will not be taken in as the performer could not concentrate as other things would be in their mind. Spectators - would applause and appreciate a footballer if he would do fancy footwork and then go on to do a pin point cross which led to a goal but on the other hand would express their disgust if you had fouled an opponent in the area to give them a penalty. Performers usually receive this type of feedback by visual or auditory means, for example the coach or teaches shows or explains why the success or failure has occurred. Beginner (3 - 12) - feedback should be put across simply for it to make any kind of effect at all and when giving any kind of slight criticism it must be put across cautiously and gently as any harsh criticism could and would put a child off playing sports. Video Feedback - would be terminal feedback as this would catch what the performer has done well or badly and would point out to the performer also further tactics he/she should do in forthcoming matches. This feedback is continuous and can be positive and negative, and even though the negative can be harshly put it would be very effective as the power and the sheer pressures of the crowd are enough to determine any performer to perform well. eedback is information received from outside the performer about the performance and is given and used to enhance (augment) the already received intrinsic feedback.
