Mental health and exercise
As Plesser introduced the topic on Mental Health and Exercise, there were two significant issues that she brought attention to during this lecture. One main issue was the state of depression and how one is able to overcome it. A depressed individual may have symptoms such as loss of interest and pleasure in activities that they formerly enjoyed, noticeable change in sleep patterns, loss of energy and fatigue, feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness, the inability to concentrate, and recurring thoughts of suicide. I would definitely recommend Ms. Plesser interacts with the students and constantly asks us questions which help to focus our attention towards what she has to say, rather than leaving us out of the presentation. There are two types of exercise: aerobic and anaerobic. Exercise helps improve our social interaction with others. If we exercise, we release endorphin which increases blood flow to the brain, and therefore making us feel good. Plesser and this topic for future classes because it is a necessity for college students to be aware that exercising can be a resolution to many problems as it has to me. Aerobic exercise helps elevate ones heartbeat, and anaerobic exercise does not elevate ones heartbeat. Exercise relieves certain disorders such as stress and lowers our anxiety level. This particular exercise can be done by weight training and yoga. When I am stressed out on school work or family problems, I have learned that exercising helps to reduce my stress, but at the same time, I am also getting fit. As a freshman, I will encounter many struggles and hardships due to adjusting to a different lifestyle, making new friends, and living on my alone away from my parents. This can be done by exercise which can help us improve our self-perception and self-esteem. Furthermore, this issue is essential to my life as a college student.
