A brief Encounter With Destiny

She appeared behind the curtain suddenly and sat at the corner of my hospital bed. I had been crying and seeing Lady Philosophy made me cry even more because I knew she would tell me that after all this misery I have gone through, I would never find supreme happiness. Yet she was wrong, and somehow I needed to gather the strength to tell her. She needed to know the real truth in how we can attain happiness in this lifetime no matter what miseries we may have gone through. 'You weep and weep and although I do not know the reason for your sadness, Destiny, I know that talking about it we can somehow find consolation in your troublesome situation. Tell me of the burdens that make you so sad.' 'My two kids, and my husband and I were all asleep when it happened. My smallest child came screaming into our bedroom as the fire alarm went off. We all panicked and started running. Somehow the fire spread so fast from one side of the house to another. It was the most agonizing moment of my life. It is impossible one can have the perfect good and evil at the same time, because they are complete opposites and cannot co-exist. In saying this, he is showing you that attaining the virtues is not enough, because it is in the process of acting that it brings us happiness. It is clear to me that the pain you are going through must be much worse than I thought because you somehow managed to convince yourself of other things, and now are beyond my help. If we are practicing the virtues we have perfected, we are then participating in God's essence, and there is nothing stopping us. ' 'Lady Philosophy we can agree that God is perfect, and because of this perfection, He has supreme goodness, and perfect virtues. You see then, evil is helping us to perfect the virtues so that when we have attained genuine virtues, we will have achieved happiness because nothing else, or evil, will be desired. ' 'What is it about God that only he can achieve happiness and that it isolates us from ever achieving it?' 'Well, with Boethius we discussed that happiness is found through the possession of divinity. Therefore meaning that happiness (A) can be found in this lifetime (C). Since I already explained that God is the supreme goodness, he is also the only one who can achieve supreme divinity. If you have the virtues within you and you use them, they are then vulnerable to corruption and change. We were all rushed to the hospital and I was separated from my kids.
