Placebo Effect
Medicines that are prescribed to patients can commonly have several effects. Some of the depend directly on medicine's pharmacological action; others may have a psychological effect that readily "cures" or relieves the symptoms troubling the patient, though they may not have any actual pharmacological action. This is known as the "placebo effect." The word "placebo" comes from the Latin verb "placere" which means, "to please" Or, "placebo is any treatment devoid of any specific actions on the patient's symptoms or diseases that somehow can cause an effect upon the patient." The placebo effect is a much-debated phenomenon in medicine. This paper will consist of three topics of discussion. First, what are the two categories of illness to be considered when discussing the placebo effect? Second, what does Pavlov's Theory have to do with the placebo effect and how it relates to stress-induced illnesses. Third, how does the placebo effect relate to the patient/doctor relationship? Does the placebo effect have the same validity when measured against serious illnesses that typically respond to chemical treatments (such as cancer, Aids, and other bacterial or cellular diseases) as when measured against stress-induced illnesses or symptoms

( can you restate that for me im so clueless) Contrary to what some scientists argue, the placebo effect does seem to exist, according to numerous studies conducted throughout the past century. Another theory behind the placebo effect has to do with the placebo effect of the positive doctor-patient relationship, which reduces the stress level in the patient. There is curiosity as to why doctors do not prescribe placebos more often since there is so much data supporting their positive effects. After a couple of trials, no food was given after the bell rang, but the dog still salivated and expected the food. This means that the placebos are not always in the form of medicines, and that even a change in environment can trigger the placebo effect! In addition having a positive reassurance from doctor can make the patient feel a lot better though it cannot cure cancer or more serious illnesses without the benefit of chemical treatments. One can argue that the placebo effect is limited only to either stress-induced symptoms or lesser symptoms associated with physical illnesses such as nausea in chemotherapy treatment for cancer that can be stress induced in some individuals. The number of cases, in which the placebo causes positive, healing effects sometimes exceeds the number of cases in which the drug actually works! This clearly shows that the placebo effect does actually work, for stress-induced illnesses. Therefore a definitive conclusion can be said to support the use of placebos in treating psychological symptoms of physical conditions. One theory comes from Pavlov's experiment on conditioned reflexes. The stress related illnesses are said to show that when the placebo effect works it does so in 7 to 64 % of cases; however, the result are not the same when treating more serious illnesses whose most likely response is to chemical treatment. such as asthma, migraine headaches, or blood-pressure/heart conditions? When debating the effectiveness of the placebo effect, consideration must be given to two types of illnesses that car or cannot be affected. Are doctors just to anxious to prescribe drugs to the patients or is there an ethical reason behind it? Although scientist have different opinions and at the end, cannot agree on the explanations behind the placebo effect, it is obvious that the placebo effect has a stronger impact on illnesses associated with the psychology of the patient more so than with the physiology. Therefore, the patient would be conditioned to respond positively to any visit to a physician's office or any medication administered to them, even if that medication is merely a placebo. According to the scientists who subscribe to this theory, ""tress can impair the immune and endocrine systems. They are: stress-related illnesses such as hypertension, asthma, high blood-pressure, migraine and other types of headaches etc.
