Founding Brothers Paper

"Founding Brothers" by Joseph J. EllisPublished by Alfred A. Knopf, a division of Random House, Inc., New York, in 2000 There have been many key and important events in our nation's history, and many people who have contributed to the growth and development of this country. Though many have played a significant role in our country's history, out of all the events and people, one group or generation allowed all that followed to take place, and is one of the most important components in our American history, our Founding Fathers. The novel "Founding Brothers" discusses the major events and interactions of these Founding Brothers. The most famous duel in American history and the focus of the beginning chapter of the novel was the Hamilton Burr duel. Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel after the two had quarreled for some time. Both participants of the duel died in New Jersey in 1804 on July 11th. I found this event interesting not because of its importance of a historical nature, but because it was interesting to think that two very well known men with political careers would duel to the death over a feud. The times were obviously very different back then; to think that if two people in politics toda

After leading his nation for around twenty years, he decided it was time to see the nation grow without him. In 1790 on February 11th, petitions arrived at The House of Representatives that called for an end of the slave trade. The foundation of the United States was fought over by our Founding Fathers, but at the end of the day everything had come together and every bit of effort and hard work paid off. He led this country well and it was loyal to him for that reason. And after all that, Hamilton didn't even see his plan passed, and it was Madison, who agreed to pass his program if Hamilton did this for him. I know that isn't the only factor to why our capital was placed there, but it was a factor. The relationships and interactions between our founding fathers was much different then what I expected and depicted well by Joseph Ellis by showing them with personalities. I found out when reading about Washington that he was more then just our first President, but really laid the first bricks in our nations foundation. Although some criticized Washington for behaving more like a king than a president, it is quite clear that without Washington's guidance at the nation's birth, who knows what would have happened in the development of this country. After this "dinner" Madison reevaluated Hamilton's plan and once again saw it not be passed, however Hamilton did see to it that our nations capital would eventually be in Virginia. Another interesting relationship was that of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. I found this whole event significant because our nation's capital is now in Virginia, technically its not, because James Madison wanted it to be. The reconciled at the end of those twelve years and the two put away their old political beliefs in an effort to mend their old friendship. This is not the practice today, and if these guys were smart, wouldn't they have foreseen that people who have different views and have been running against each other would not be good bedfellows? The President vice President relationship eventually drove the two to apart because of their conflicting views and they refused to work with each other. It was interesting to see how the interactions of our founding father took place.
