Othello - Is the new movie or the book better?

Today, students are turning to the movies for help in understanding Shakespeare's plays. The language he uses usually confuses the heck out of people and they can't understand what is going on. In the movie "Othello" we watched in class, they cut out some of the scenes that are in the original book.

Probably because of the movie length, the production company probably had to cut out some of the not-needed sc

. . .

I felt that they did an ok job on the movie. For instance, the movie production cut out the scene where they were all standing around and talking about the storm that some had encountered that took out the Turkish fleet that they were going to fight, but the same storm also took out one of their own Venetian ships. But I understood it better than the book because of putting the book scenes to images and after reading it I knew what was going to happen anyways so I could interpret the words that they were saying to what was going to happen and link them together. No one knew whether it was Othello's ship or not.

Not only did the movie try to interpret the movie so kids could some what get an idea of what was going on the in the book, it was giving the book life, bringing images to the scenes such as the setting, clothes, and who was standing where and how they were standing when they were talking. enes so they could focus on the main parts in the book that makese it such a great story.
