Women in Law Enforcement

             There are some very serious issues with women being officers. Women are still looked at, in some ways, as the homemakers, that have no business being in a man's job. A woman has to deal with sexual harassment from her fellow men officers and in some cases are afraid to come forward in fear of losing their job or being exposed as a rat or a liar. Men make sexually explicit comments in fun with fellow officers and it can be taken another direction with a female officer.
             With role barriers, I believe that they are diminishing. Although the book does not say that they are gone. More and more people are beginning to see us, as women, as strong, independent people rather than homemakers. A woman can take care of her children and be her husband's crutch when needed so why can't she do it for her community? We get the same training that the men do and can do some things more sympathetically then a man can. Therefore, these may be reasons for the role barriers diminishing.
             Being included and accepted in to "The Brotherhood" is just another way for women to prove themselves to men. I do not think that a woman should ever have to compromise herself or who she is to be in a "man's job". Women are supposed to look better then men, they are supposed to be soft hearted and sympathetic. It's in our nature. I think that a man needs to let a woman be these things and take heed to the fact that we will never be men so let us do our job the way that we know how. It's not fair that a woman has to prove herself over and over and just when she thinks she's done she has to do it again. I also think this goes for having a double standard, men vs. women.
             Since women are the only ones that can bear children I don't think that there should be any guilt or shame with having to step back for 6-8 weeks after having the child. I believe that with any true career there will be conflict of how to j...
