             Cantonese serves as the lingua franca for most Hong Kong people in daily lives, but many people often speak in Cantonese with English. For example we often say '¥h­¹lunch!¡ or 'å@±ß§Ú¥h°µfacial !¡. Actually we are Code-mixing (Cantonese & English). Why do people have this language choice? There are several reasons and motives.
             English is widely used in public by most educated persons under Britain¡s rule before 1997 in public sector, such as most government officials and lawyers speak in English in legislation council or court. In private sector, English is still regard as the primary 'language of business¡ and becomes more important, like many contracts and constitutional documents are still written in English. Even in some informal conversations or social contact of these professionals, government officials and businessman, they are Code-Mixing through English interfaces with Cantonese.
             As John B Thompson (1995) states that someone or something will have political and economic power in society that will influence everyone. Actually their importance or popularity of code-mixing in spoken or written form which have political and economical power meanings have influenced ordinary Hong Kong people ¡ interpretation of identity in using language. For the reason of achieving a higher or favorable level of social status and identity, most people would like to imitate and learn from someone who are more well-educated, well-reputed and the social status is strongly confirmed by public.
             Not only the political and economic power but also the education system has influenced our language choices. English is the medium of instruction of all the tertiary institutions and most of the secondary school...
