Americanism

Americanism and the new american paradigm.
*note* this paper is 99% opinion, and inspired by Noam Chomsky's 1997 lecture in boston on "Propaganda And Control of the Public Mind."
The year was 1989, the cold war had subsided, and America was looking for a new paradigm, a new reason to keep people on our side. The beauty of the Cold War was that you could blow the "communist" whistle and americans would be up in arms about the situation. And for a while it worked. Take the cuban missle crisis for instance, JFK had a meeting with the president of mexico, and asked for their help in combating the "communist russian tentacle" that was cuba. The mexican president refused, saying that if he announced that Cuba was a threat, 400,000 mexicans would die laughing. And that was somewhat true, the idea that a little nation like cuba, that could hardly keep clothes on it's citizens back being a national threat was poprosterous. But that was how firm a grip the concept of the Cold War had on america.
But that had worn off until recently.
During the Cold War, America gave six billion dollars, only don't ask them that they'll never admit to it, to a small guerilla group in afganistan. Maybe you've heard of them, they call themselves the Al'Queda. Nevertheless the Al'Queda was going to be used to help us combat the russians, and minimal fighting followed, but nothing ground breaking.
Now call it a twist of fate, call it a conspiracy, call it whatever you may, but i think it's rather amusing that the same guerilla group we funded in the 80's, is what is pushing citizens deeper into the concept of Americanism.
Let me explain that a little better. Take all of the countries in the world, only the most fundamentalist of countries has such a concept. Here, as free as we may seem, you would be practically drawn and quatered to publicly adress the county with your concept...
