Summer of Fear
I read Summer of Fear, which is a fictional book written by Lois Duncan. It took place in the west between 1990 to present day. The theme was to never give up when you want to reach a goal. The conflict in the story was external. Rachael and her cousin Julia now live together and they do not get along. The main character in the story is Rachael. Rachael is a very persistent girl. This is demonstrated when she learns that her Cousin Julia is a witch and tries to convince her parents, but they will not believe her. She keeps trying to convince them by gathering more evidence. Rachael is also very caring and protective of her family. She cares about her family and
Luckily they are able to save her before the accident. She goes to her neighbor, Professor Jarvis who is an expert on witchcraft and tells him all about Julia. Julia soon finds out about this and puts a curse on Professor Jarvis that causes him to have a heart attack. Julia stole Rachael's bedroom, her best friend, and her boyfriend. She goes to the library and gets books on witchcraft, and discovers that many of Julia's habits are also the habits of other witches. This is where the conflict begins between the two cousins. While she is gone Julia admits to being a witch, and also admits that she is not really Julia. Julia's parents have died in an accident. When they arrive back home Sara is gone. Sara wants to get rid of Rachael's mother so that she can marry Rachael's father. Julia's real identity is a girl named Sara. Sara was hired to work in Julia's family as a maid. After killing Julia and her family in an automobile accident Sara was able to take on Julia's identity. I liked this book because it was easy to read and very suspenseful.
