Why Do We Dream?
Why do we have dreams? Many people wonder why we dream and what they mean. Research now shows that dreams occur during REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. Most of those detailed dreams that we remember, researchers say, happen during REM sleep. REM sleep is a stage in our natural sleep cycle in which dreams occur. During REM sleep there is rapid eye movement, loss in reflexes, increased pulse rate, and Dreams are stored in short memory banks in our brains and we might remember them for a while. However, if the dream was not significant to us then we ignore and forget it, but if it seemed important, we think and talk about it. So our memory bank erases the dream because we have not thought or talked about it. For instance, if we wake from a dream, but then our course of thought changes onto another topic the dream quickly vanishes. (Lavie 66 and 67,Hartmann 15) Some people have a better ability of remembering dreams, while other people claim they do not dream at all because they cannot remember their dreams. We have dreams every night even if we completely forgotten the dream and it
So if your working with other people they will give you interpretations that you haven't even thought of. Joseph was put in jail unrightfully because of his master's wife, but in jail Joseph interprets other prisoners dreams. In other ancient cultures slept in temples in Egypt because they believed they would have a god or goddess appear in dreams. Working in a dream group is a great benefit because you may share ideas and interpretations of your dreams. The Pharaoh made Joseph the Governor over Egypt and he ordered the country to store up plenty of grain. Also keep a dream dictionary by you so you can then interpret your dream. In a dream you need to find as many possible meanings of the dream as you can. (Hartmann 241 - 217) Another great mystery of the sleeping mind is if animals dream. These people have violent nightmares similar to what happened to them or exact reenactments of what happened to them. Those are the dreams about work, school, or home that we may have. However, do not deceive dream interpretation as a new concept. (Bright 55 - 56) Dreams could have multiple meanings, however, we are never sure which meaning is the right one. Michel Jouvet did a test to see how fast our dreams start to relate to what is happening in our lives. Another example is someone who is studying for a test the night before and is worried might have a dream about passing the test because the person was thinking about passing the test; it was the person's "wish". This happens because she is worried if the baby will be okay and is she will be a good mother.
