The life of Miss Emily Grierson: A characterization of Miss Emily Grierson in William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily"Miss Emily Grierson better known as Miss Emily, born an only child. Her father is rich and overprotective. They live in a small town name Jefferson. There's no mother or any female living in the house. Miss Emily has no friends, unless her father would choose them. Miss Emily has a childhood with no happiness. She grows up to believe that she is better than others because she has money.Miss Emily has been living alone since her father's death. During her father's life he has always taken care of household matters. Now that he's gone, all responsibilities belong to Miss Emily. Miss Emily receives a notice of taxes that means nothing to her because she knew her father has lent the town money and for that reason, they pay no taxes. The Board of Aldermen visits Miss Emily to discuss the taxes, but Miss Emily replies "See Colonel Sartoris. I have no taxes in Jefferson." (30) T
Women of the town offer their condolence and aid. Miss Emily has dressed him in the nightshirt and kept him upstairs in her house for years. Miss Emily buys men clothing, including a man nightshirt. That's why she buy s a toilet set in silver with the initials HB. The house has a room upstairs that has been locked for some years. People in the town, began to remember "how old lady Wyatt, her great-aunt, gone completely crazy at last, believing that the Griersons held themselves a little too high for what they really were. Some of the town people go into the house, and dispose of certain things. Miss Emily watches him, as the foreman she sees him cusses out the negroes working under him. " (30-31) Miss Emily has been sick for long time, and no one has seen her for a long time. Everyone says she will kill herself. " Some of the town people believe Miss Emily needs some kin people around, so they call her cousin. Later, people see Miss Emily and Homer taking a buggy ride on Sunday afternoon. She cannot deal with the fact of being alone.
