Art has been through many changes through as early as the middle ages to the renaissance to the French Neoclassism. Artist began to practice and show their skills to the world. The successfulness of an artist is greatly determined on how much people (wealthy individuals) hired and loved their work. Ingres, Jean-Auguste-Dominique is one of them. French Neoclassism painters were largely influenced by trends in late 18th-century Europe. However, the French Revolution inspired a unique brand of Neoclassism realism that was a strong force in French paintings. Painting nude women portraits of the history of art were popular during this period. Portraits were very expensive to commission so the only people who could afford it were the wealthy and rich people.Ingres, Jean-Auguste-Dominique, was a French painter, who was a leading figure in the neoclassical movement. Ingres was born in Montauban in the South of France on August 29, 1780. He demonstrated great talent at an early age for music and drawing and received his first instruction from his father. This painting was done all in light colors, the people and the rocks all done in light colors, giving it a heavenly look. If you looked at most of his earlier work, he paints women in the nude, that's basically what he did. That's how the artists that we know today got to be those great painters of today. It did no matter if it was people, fabric or landscape he always tried to make his painting as real as possible and for that he did succeed. For the veins that runs through the women's body the colors that were used was blue with green blended together. Every painting has smooth brush strokes and you can't see one line in the painting. If you can see the left of the picture, Ingres uses dark colors. Ingres inspired many other artists by the way he painted. That's because every painting that Ingres did, he always focuses on realism, the people in the painting also looked real without any line but shadow that substituted the line. When Ingres painted he painted with great texture and detail giving his picture full of life and realism. It seems that Ingres used foreshortening in the face because the body looks big and takes the space of the picture but the head seems to be a bit small. Even the curtains and fabric of the pillows are very realistic with the wrinkles in them. It's a painting of a woman also in the nude sitting on a bed with her back turned. He won the Prix de Rome in 1801 for his painting The Envoys from Agamemnon. The way he painted realism was not like anyone has ever seen before.
