Psychological Addiction and Habit

For smokers, the problem is that the physical act of smoking continues even after the nicotine addiction has been broken. The psychological aspect of smoking addiction (not just nicotine) must be accounted for as well. So how do smokers do it? E-mail me for help. "Nicotine addiction isn't just a physiological addiction. It's a psychological one, too," says according to John P. Pierce, director of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the University of California at San Diego Cancer Center and co-author of a study found in the Sept. 11, 2002, Journal of the American Medical As

Addiction is serious and there are many forms of it. Let's take a look a non-tobacco example. His study was featured in the International Journal of Cancer * The National Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) says Americans are four times more likely to try to kick the habit thanks to the nicotine patch, gum and inhalers * The British Medical Journal revealed that using a nicotine patch and spray can double a smoker's chances of quitting (237 smokers were in the study)"Habit is stronger than reason. Yet, many of these coffee drinkers still claim they can't quit drinking it because they are addicted to it, even after switching to decaffeinated coffee (the addictive substance is removed) years ago. Some people are addicted to the caffeine in coffee, like the nicotine in cigarettes. Are you addicted to nicotine? Take the Nicotine Addiction Test. Many claim nicotine addiction even after using the nicotine patch (it regulates the flow of nicotine slowly reducing their dependence on nicotine - no more addiction). Again, the physical addiction disappears, but the dependence on cigarettes remains. Recognize it, then you can finally win the battle against smoking. How can this be? Yes, these decaffeinated coffee drinkers are still addicted, but it's no longer a physical addiction to coffee or caffeine.
