Atticus Finch is a lawyer in Maycomb and is a descendent from a well-respected local family. His unbiased wisdom, sharp intelligence, courage, and calm personality make him a magnet for people who need help and, in Maycomb, people determined to make him just as prejudice as they are.
             Atticus had to have a lot of courage to do what he did for Tom Robinson. Atticus looked past the racism and the hate, that was thrown at him in all directions by the towns people, and really just looked at the case. An innocent man was being put on trial with no evidence except the word of a abusive drunk, who would rather have a righteous man executed than to make himself look bad. Even when Mr. Ewell threatened to kill Atticus and spat in his face, Atticus just turned the other cheek. He didn't run to the police or lock himself in a closet, all he said was "I wish Mr. Ewell wouldn't chew tobacco".
             Scout and Jem are a great example of Atticus's wisdom. Because of the way Atticus trained his children they were completely oblivious to racism. They didn't understand racism or how anyone could be prejudice about someone just because the color of their skin. Atticus also taught them the importance of treating people the way they wanted to be treated just by living his life. Attitude reflects leadership and the leadership of Atticus over Jem and Scout's life created colorblind children who were truly free from the prejudice thoughts of people who lived in Maycomb.
             Not many people think that if you lose a battle then you were successful for just trying you hardest to succeed. Atticus however did believe this. Being successful was only to try to do something for a good cause. He once said that "as long as you try you will always be appreciated and will always be successful".
