The Company of the Committed
The Company of the Committed tells five main ideas that Elton Trueblood thinks could have a great impact on Christians and society. There are many Christians who go to church and are continuous churchgoers, but only a portion of them actually goes to serve and worship God. "What is needed is a task force of committed men and women who truly care for God, for the church, and for other people." (pg. 1) Elton Trueblood's first idea for restoring the church is "the necessity of commitment." This statement tells about a Christian's commitment to God and to the church. Many men and women go to church every Sunday and sing worship songs, but they are not really "committed to God." Commitment means doing everything according to God's will. If one is committed to God, he would tithe, read God's Word,
If we are enlisted in God's kingdom, we need to dwell in His Word. " The word "penetration" in this statement means penetrating into the world. " In Elton's point of view, love is the key factor of restoring the church. The fourth idea is "the strategy of penetration. We as Christians need to strive to follow Christ's footsteps. There are times in our life when we need to set a time just to be with God. 44) "The vocation of witness" is Elton Trueblood's third idea. " God doesn't ask us to preach about His name, He tells us to, and we need to wake up and follow His direction. Elton's Trueblood's fifth and final idea that could have a great impact on Christians and society, is "the criterion of validity. "One way of stating the crucial difference between belief and commitment is to say that when commitment occurs there is attached to belief an 'existential index'.
