Strategies for Effective Decision-Making and How I Can Apply

             Life is filled with choices and decisions. At some point in his life, every person comes face to face with situations that require serious decisions. Every decision is risky because it is a commitment that determines the future. It is said that the most important decision a decision maker can make is to decide whether a certain problem needs a decision or not. There are problems that will simply go away on their own just as there are problems that require serious attention and decision-making. Many times in the past, I have wasted my time and energy in senseless things, which I thought at that time were problems when in fact they were not anything to fuss about. An also many times I have regretted these wasted moments. But then, regret is also another waste of time if we dwell on it. The moment has gone by and we cannot do anything about it.
             Decide is derived from the Latin word, "decidere," which literally means "to cut off or to kill." The act of deciding then can be actually considered as an act of killing all but one of many alternatives with the hope that the chosen alternative is "best" or "right."
             There are, in truth, different kinds of decisions. They can be from very concrete to very vague. While there are decisions that must be made as immediate as possible, there are others that can be put off or not decide at all. There are also concrete decisions as there are optional ones. Either way, we are faced with some choices.
             Decisions are limited by various real life constraints that we have no control of. Some of these are finances, relationships, and jobs. There is often more than one "correct" decision, and one "wrong" choice. But even when we cannot arrive at the "right" decision, we can get to an appropriate and effective decision.
