Comparison Essay (1984 and The enemy of the State)
Both, "Enemy of the State" and 1984 are great peaces of work. You can see that the authors and directors put a lot of effort in to them. The author or 1984 is George Orwell. He is well known for his literature, especially Animal Farm which he wrote in 1945, and of course a great political novel 1984, which was published in 1949. In most of his writings Orwell wrote about politics. In 1984 , he tried to show what the world would look be under totalitarianism. He was trying to get his point across, that people should think for them selves, and not let the government tell them what to eat, when to sleep, how to live, who to hate and who to love. The main character, Winston Smith, tries to rebel against the party because he doesn't believe in their rules, he wants to have the right to say 'no' and be able to have his own opinion. In the book, a term surveillance is used a lot. People are always being watched, and if they make a mistake they will be executed.Enemy of The State is a political thriller with a lot of visual effects and really interesting story. The main actors are Will Smith (plays Robert Dean) and Gene Hackman (plays Brill). The movie is directed by Tony Scot; another really famous movie that he directed w
With a help of astronomical satellites they follow him out side. That is similar to the novel 1984, where Winston is being watched everywhere he goes. Enemy of the State takes place in the present time and the atmosphere is really similar to how it is right now. They type of government in United States is totally different from what it is in the book 1984, it is capitalism. So he doesn't get it the way he wants his life to be, the government wins. On the other hand Robert Dean is a well-off lawyer and everything in his life is going really good. They clearly show the two types of government: capitalism and totalitarism. And he uses telescreens, though which they watch people. Stalin killed off everyone who was against his way of doing things. , he loses all of his money, and almost loses his family, especially his wife. Looking at protagonists in both of the stories, we can say that they are a little bit similar.
