             The novel is set in Oceania, a superstate that includes the continent of America and the British Isles. Most of the action takes place in London. The other setting is the village of Paddington, which is not very far from London. There are two other superstates with which Oceania is constantly at war, Eurasia, which includes the entire northern region of Europe, and Eastasia.
             · Oceania - One of the three totalitarian superpowers that rule the world using censorship and pure terror. The population of Oceania is divided into three parts: 1.The Inner Party (app. 1% of the population)
             2.The Outer Party (app. 18% of the population)
             3.The Proles (81% of the population)-only interested in their labor power, because the proles are mainly employed in the industry and in the farms. In Oceania the proles live in very poor quarters
