Beowulf vs Superman

             Superhero, A figure, especially in a comic strip or cartoon, endowed with superhuman powers and usually portrayed as fighting evil or crime. The textbook definition of a "superhero". Superhero's are figures that people look up to in a sense, like myself . I think almost every person in this world would like to have superhuman strength, being able to see through walls or fly. When we see these people on TV or in comics, it almost gives us a feeling of protection. We see these superhuman characters rescue innocent people, towns and others, than when these events actually happen in the real world, we almost expect for someone to come and do the same for us. It's as if they're putting a false image in your mind, because we all know that there will never be anyone like that, like Superman. Where did this trend of superhero's come from? One would say that the story of Beowulf had an influence on these movies we see today.
             Beowulf was a superhero figure in the land of the Danes during the Anglo-Saxon era. He was willing to put his own life on the line for others. A good hearted, strong spirited person would sum him up. Beowulf was one of the few who was concerned with the glory of winning. He felt it was worth the risk to sacrifice his life for the satisfaction of winning and protecting the other people. He did not have super human abilities as these new-age super hero's do, however he was perceived the same way as they were by his people. They would look to him when the town was in trouble. For example when he had to go all the way to Sweeden to fight the dragon that was terrorizing the people. You could easily compare that fight to a fight between Superman and Bazarro. What Beowulf did was set a "blueprint" for the new superhero's to come after him.
