Columbus The Hero???
Christopher Columbus discovered America! Well, that is what they teach us in school. But, Does he really deserve all the credit for discovering the Americas? Did he really discover that the world was Round? Does he deserve to be called a hero? That remains to be seen. However, I will show you The Reasons why I personally do not feel, Columbus is a hero. Many people say that Columbus is not a hero because the Native Americans were here before him! Well, don't we credit Marco Polo for finding the lands of China? We do! We don't say, "The Chinese were there first, so you didn't discover it!" no we say that Marco Polo was a great adventurer, who ventured farther than Europeans had before him. Since Columbus didn't discover America, then why does everyone attribute it to him? Columbus is not the right man to call a hero! Vespucci should be the hero. Students in American Schools are given off for Columbus Day. He did not care about nobility of purpose; he did not care if he was courageous. This is the man whom the Americas were named after. He never actually set a single foot on the American mainland! That is an accomplishment, which can only be attributed to Amerigo Vespucci. This is a day to celebrate the life of the man who found America.
