Big Brother
Boys and girls, I am sure all of you have watched the television show Big Brother, some of you may even watch it religiously. After all, just under 8 million people in the nation regularly tune into the show, but have you ever wondered why?Big Brother 'fever' has swept the nation for a third time this summer. Despite people complaining about the repetitiveness of the show, the ratings have increased and the third series has been the most popular so far. Last years figures averaged between 4 million and 5 million. However this series is failing to attract the younger generation, the proportion of under-34s watching has decreased to 53% from 57% last year. This has concerned advertisers as the younger generation are more susceptible to buying merchandise, subscribing to Internet viewing (which has now been priced at L9.95 per month) and to Big Brother interaction by SMS, this is going to cause the company to lose money. Money is an important part of the Big Brother, advertising companies want to make money from the show, channel 4 and the production company Endemol want to make money from the show and the contestants themselves enter to in the prize money. Shows similar to Big Brother, such as Survivor have become a bi
The show has genuinely revealed some useful psychological insights and it has been useful but it has had to use people in an extremely manipulative way to reach these conclusions. It is in newspapers, magazines, books, posters, it is everywhere you turn. We watch them laugh, cry, argue, chat, and even go to the toilet and by then end of the nine weeks there are a few characters we feel we know and love, and we few she are not so fond of. The show Survivor is the same but there are many personal challenges to overcome as well, it is a much tougher game and it gives the contestants more of a chance to grow as a person. However, sometimes they had to watch their partner flirt or even get together with another housemate, and there was nothing they could do about it. However, little does she know, outside the four walls of the Big Brother house she is being called a pig, a minger, a backstabber, fat, ugly and there are even T-shirts being printed with her face on, and the slogan 'Lord of the Mings. Not surprisingly, this caused intense backstabbing, rising tension and compulsive viewing. However, the families and friends of the contestants did not sign themselves up for a game but they have been caught up in many fiascos too. When Jade leaves the Big Brother house she will receive the shock of her life, many people have not voted for her in evictions because she is an entertaining character, she makes people laugh. Adele had a girlfriend when she entered the Big Brother house but she happily flirted and even kissed Alex while in the house. His life will never be the same again. For example when Paul and Helen got together, Helens boyfriend Big G announced to the nation that he had dumped Helen. The slogan was 'See, you'll watch anything. You only need to walk into a coffee shop or a lift to hear people talking about the recent events in the Big Brother house.
