Castor and Pollox

The myth that I decided to write about was the myth about Castor and Polydeuces, or in Latin Pollox. I picked this myth because it seemed fairly interesting. Plus I am a Gemini. Castor and Polydeuces are which the Gemini Zodiac sign and constellation are based upon. According to astronomers, this constellation among the other twelve of the Zodiac is considered to be some of the oldest sky patterns that will and have been recognized by human civilizations around the world. There is only one story that is closely related to the legend of the Gemini, and that story is in Greek mythology, the story of Castor and Polydeuces, identical twins. Castor was the son of Leda and her husband King Tyndareus, King of Sparta. Then Polydeuces being the son of Zeus and Leda. Leda was just another conquest for Zeus who was disguised as a swan at this time. Through this conquest another child was born, this child was Helen of Troy. Tyndareus soon adopted Polydeuces as a son of his own. As the twins, Castor and Polydeuces, grew up they were inseparable and later became known as the Dioscuri, or the sons of Zeus. But since Polydeuces was the son of a god he was immortal, and Castor was the son of human he was not immortal, this meant eventually at s

Zeus grants Polydeuces wish that Castor be given half of his immortality so that Castor and Polydeuces can live together again and die at the same time. They both grew up to be great athletes and had superior mental abilities too. Zeus then hung them in the sky as constellations for them both to be remembered. Later it was time, and both Castor and Polydeuces died. Castor and Polydeuces and Idas and Lynceus all decided that should go on a cattle raid together. Castor and Polydeuces lived to have many great adventures and such. Idas and Lynceus had the same sort of relationship as the one shaded between Castor and Polydeuces. I also knew a little bit about the myth just from general knowledge, and I wanted to learn the rest of the story. Idas then killed Castor for breaking a monument that Idas built to honor Castor. But then the time came when Castor died. After this event, the two sets of twins became very distant from one another.
