It is Difficult to Feel Sympathy for either Romeo or Juliet

Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' is one of the best known tragedies in the world. When all the facts are analysed the only conclusion that can be drawn is that it was about two infatuated teen-agers who did not know what they were doing. It is therefore hard to feel sympathy for either Romeo or Juliet. They were both wrong and did not know what they were getting them selves into. It is difficult to feel sympathy because all of the events were repercussions of stupid actions under-taken by the pair. If they were a little wiser and more mature then the event surely would not have taken place. Due to the lack of intelligence the death of the couple was inevitable. I will discuss why it was an impossible situation and why there are no sympathetic emotions towards either Romeo or Juliet. After studying the play I have come to a conclusion that if both Romeo and Juliet were smarter they would have realised that it was nothing more than an infatuation. They were both only teen-agers and therefore

Juliet was just another gullible teen-ager when Romeo spoke to her and told her how wonderful she was and how in love he was with her. When Romeo was banished Juliet acted as if it was the end of the world, and immediately thought the only way out if suicide, or at least, pretend to be dead and then run away with Romeo. This all sounds a little too far fetched for true love. I believe that if their parents were directly consulted, instead of game play, and informed of their 'affection' for each other that they might have been understanding and maybe not supportive at first. They could obviously see that it was merely puppy love and that sooner or later both Romeo and Juliet would out grow this phase and move on with a more serious and stable relationship. In actual fact their parents might have been a lot more understanding, towards the situation. I think that the parents were a lot smarter and deserved a lot more credibility then they were given. If the pair were more open and honest with their parents, chances are they could have finished with a 'happily ever after'. She, of course, believed him, and became infatuated with him. Romeo was in love with the idea of love and switched quickly from Rosaline to Juliet, and claimed to be in love. This does not make sense; a life is not worth lust, a relationship spanning two days. Therefore it is not sympathy, but pity I feel towards Romeo and Juliet. Personally I think if she consulted her parents about the situation there might have been another way out, which would not have led to the tragic ending.
