Rose - A coquettish flower, the rose treats the little prince very poorly, even though he is in love with her. Geographer - The geographer leads a dull, sedentary life, taking out all the vitality and imagination from his drawings. He teaches the little prince about the nature of time and death. Fox - The fox asks the little prince to "tame" him, and the two become friends. Snake - The snake is a symbol of humanity's fear of the unknown. es, and realizes that he is responsible for the rose he loves. Merchant - The merchant tries to sell people lost time with a pill that quenches thirst. He is a symbol of the quantitative way of thinking that makes people think they can buy anything, even friends. Businessman - A classic "adult," he is more concerned with numbers than emotions, and thinks that he actually owns the stars. The fox tells him a very important secret: only the heart can see correctly; the essential things in life are invisible to the eye. His friends on Earth are not enough to prevent him from returning home to his rose. Drunk - The drunk's vice is juxtaposed with the innocence of the little prince, who does not understand the drunk's desire to forget.
