Importance Of Rome
Although many civilizations came and went throughout time Rome came and stayed, and stayed for a very long time. The Roman people were innovative, interesting and good at what they did. From politics to architecture to social life, they left behind many changes and innovations that are with us today and will be in the future. Ancient Rome is gone, but it is hard to imagine that for 10 times the years that America has been an organized country that Rome was the center of the world and one of the most important empires. Roman architecture was, unlike the Greeks and modern civilizations, very real or a style called Verism. They actually liked to portray people in art as they would appear in real life. The use of the arch for bridges and so on was also a Roman innovation or design. The arch is stronger and more app
Then Emperor Constantine came to power under the sign of the Christian God, thus Christianity became very important in the greatest empire in the world and leaving us with many of the concepts Christians believe today. The arch is the first of many inventions by Romans including columns, domes, concrete and water control. Secondly one did not have to be circumcised like Jews thus being much more appealing for adult males to convert. Ancient Rome influenced countless aspects of our life today from the materials we use to build to the politicians who have things built. Romans also had access to ports just like other successful modern cities. Rome did make mistakes like spreading the empire out too far, this leading to its collapse. Rome, with a population of 1,000,000 people, was the largest city by far in ancient times and therefore needed a lot of buildings. Romans also loved being entertained, though maybe not quite as much as Americans, they had an abundance of structures for this purpose ranging all the way up to a capacity of 300,000 people, nearly one third of the cities population. The way these resources were taken advantage of and the blunders Rome made helped shape countless cities since. The style of government and the role of politics in everyday life also contributed modern civilizations. Since Rome people have tried to duplicate what they had and America has something good going but only time will tell if in 5,000 years from now it is as important as Rome was. The Romans took full advantage of these and shaped what civilizations could do in the future. Rome survived for many reasons for 2,000 years but one of the main ones was its great natural resources and natural barriers. When Christianity first arrived in Rome it was not accepted well.
