             The Difference between Gender Expression and Sexual Orientation
             Generally, "sex" is a word that generally denotes a biological trait, while "gender" refers to social traits. There's a lot or controversy about the difference between sex and gender. Normally, "sex" refers to genitalia, chromosome, and hormones. "Gender" includes things like social roles, personality traits, or identity. However, in the transgender community, sex, as chromosomes and hormones, becomes blurred because there are so many medical and scientific debates. Some argue that an FTM, or female to male transsexual, may have a Y chromosome, but lacked testosterone during genital development. However, there was testosterone present during brain development, thus causing the child to be born with female anatomy, but a male brain. Hormones can influence genital and brain development regardless of chromosomes, and the same principle applies to MTFs, or male to female transsexuals. This theory makes a great deal of sense to me. Therefore, to me, the difference between sex and gender are that sex refers to your physical appearance at birth, and gender refers to how you view yourself on the spectrum between male and female. There are some people who do not feel as though they fit into one gender, and are often referred to as the "third sex." Many transgendered people are referred to as the third sex because of their gender expression.
             Now that we have some idea about what sex and gender are, we need to clear the air about gender expression and sexual orientation. Many people think that all transgendered people are gay and want to have surgery. This is not necessarily true. If an FTM where attracted to women, he'd be a heterosexual man. If an MTF where attracted to women, she'd be a homosexual woman. Many transgendered people are also bisexual. Gender expression
