Commentary on a Group Dance Project

We began by brainstorming for ideas for the poem we chose, "A Wise Triangle." We came up with the idea of dancing in jagged movements to symbolize triangles and angles and lines. Because our group was of different abilities, we had to compose this dance so that everyone appeared to have the same skill level. Everyone tried equally hard, and we accomplished this by splitting our group of six into three pairs of equal build and ability; we came up with the idea to effectively take it in turns to dance with each pair standing with their bodies in the shape of a triangle.
We started the dance slowly with one couple doing a little movement symbolizing the angles and lines and where they meet. A second couple then came through the triangle and formed another triangle on the floor using their feet. A third couple walked through these two separate triangles and performed the splits. This was to symbolize the beginning of the poem. The rest of the dance displayed the rest of the poem using pairs, and the whole group came together at the end. The further into the dance we got, the more the group moved together.
It took us a while to develop the choreography, but the entire contributed to the outcome. During the creative process, we decided to stick very closely to the idea of triangles and wherever possible, we would make triangles using our bodies. While the duets were dancing their parts of the performance, the rest of the group was forming triangles and other angles with our bodies, sticking closely to the text of the poem. We selected a piece of music that was suitable for our dance, as it started off slow and became progressively faster. The song we originally chose is "Another Chance" by Roger Sanchez, however we soon found out that this piece wouldn't work as well as we had hoped. We ended up using a song provided to us by the subject teacher.
