Canadian Getaway
What a wonderful place this is, to me, like no other. This small, old, primitive cabin nestled deep in the woods upon a hill. It over looks a beautiful, serene, crystal clear lake. Barely touched by human hands, it remains natural in all its beauty. This has to be Gods' country. This cabin has been in my family for over a half century. My great, great uncle, while vacationing in Ontario, Canada, found this property. It's actually located ten miles down a dirt road from the small town of Chaffey's Lock. As we turn off this dirt road, we end up on the lane that meanders through the woods down to the lake and cabin. I start to feel like a child again, becoming excited, anxious and unable to sit still. In eager anticipation of the good fun and memories I know "we" (my entourage of family), will create. This primitive cabin built from cedar is a far cry from the Ritz Carlton. With no indoor plumbing, it makes you revert back to old fashion ways, but, for myself, that is just part of the fun. Thinking back, as a child, the hill the cabin was built on was almost mountain like and difficult to climb. Now that I'm older, I see it's merely just a little steep. Nevertheless, I still become a little out of breath
Or you can take a "shower" at the boathouse, with a rigged up hose that pumps cold water from the lake. There is a joke, that this room is called the "Honeymoon Suite". These lakes are private, only property owners have access to them. There are also two windows in this room; one has an awesome view of the lake. There is a huge rock that sits high above the tree line, across the lake from the cabin. These journals sit on the mantel above the fireplace in the living room, for all to read, laugh and reminisce of the passed times here. This cold spring fed lake is connected with two others by a series of small creeks that are sometime impassible due to the beaver dams. Walking through the door into the cabin's main room, I have to stop and give my eyes time to adjust to the darkness. It's our tradition to hike up to it every time we're here. You can watch the fish swim around you while floating on a raft or fishing from a boat. In all of the years only two people have seen a bear.
