Is Christianity the only way
Sometimes, I feel like the world has been taken over by Christians and their beliefs. It is hard when you don't exactly believe in the Christian God & you feel like the only one. Life’s a journey; I’ve always believed that. I’ve been trekking along at my own pace, going on my own trail, until this summer, when I came to a fork in the road. Do I let a Christian God lead my life or not? I felt that I couldn’t become a Christian and I wanted to know why.I attended a camp where I was introduced to Christianity. The leaders there urged us to become Christians and let God lead the way. God was never a part of my life so, I was glad to finally learn about God and the things that he supposedly did, but I wasn’t sure if I could have faith in something so mysterious. The whole week was very fascinating to me because I learned so much, but I knew I couldn’t commit myself to becoming a Christian. I was very much a skeptic about what they taught us about Christ. The leaders at camp told us that part of having faith, was to even have faith in the mystery of Christ. I couldn’t invest my faith in something without actually knowing that it was the real deal. I don't think he counts how many good deeds or sins I commit. Our family used to like going to their house or having them over to ours. It felt so good to know that there were others out there that think the same way I do. It is impossible to have a normal conversation with the lady because she relates everything to her relationship with Jesus Christ. The force of him is always there, within me. I related to everything that I read about a belief called Agnosticism, though. I am Agnostic and have led a much happier life since I found out that there wasn’t anything “wrong” with me. I went to many web sites and read as much as I could about theism and atheism; I wasn’t either. At first, I was ashamed that I couldn’t convert after all the hard work of the leaders at camp put out, but I finally found the answer. An important reason why I know I am Agnostic is because I believe certain types of evangelism are especially disrespectful toward the people of other cultures and Faiths, like mine. Instead of spreading the Good News through positive role modeling and respectful conversation, Christians have often treated the people they hope to convert like myself, with a condescending or patronizing attitude. Such an evangelist approach is more likely to result in defensiveness than in conversion.
