In all of the plays by Shakespeare that I have read there are a lot of interesting characters. In reading Timon of Athens I was in introduced to another great character. Timon is this very generous character who likes to help his friends. Timon wants to help his friend Lucilius get married and he bails his friend Ventidius out of jail. Timon is a generous man willing to do anything for his friends. He saw man as naturally good, but soon learned otherwise. So Timon decided that he is going to help Lucilius. Lucilius wants to get married but does not have the money that it takes to get married. Again in act one scene one Timon is helping another friend who is also his servant, Lucilius. Timon is always giving to those around him not thinking of what his generosity is doing to him. Flaminius goes to Lucilius's house to ask him to lend Timon some money. None of the people that Timon called friends will lend him any money. Lucilius is a very happy man "Humbly I thank your lordship" (53). Timon thinks that what he does for his friends his friends will do in return for him. " (103-105)Timon decides to help a friend who is in need. Through it all Timon comes to the conclusion that he hates all the men that he use to call his friends. Lucilius replies, "that this is not time to lend money, especially upon bare friendship without security" (40-41).
