             Winston Smith is the protagonist, an intellectual man of thirty-nine years. He's a member of the Outer Party and has an insignificant and average life. He lives in the futuristic country of Oceania. Oceania is governed by Big Brother and the Party. The society in which he lives is based upon suspicion, fear, and hatred. The Thought police and the telescreen, a device in which acts as a spy, monitor every one of his moves. These telescreens are used to make sure no one commits a though crime A thought crime is a crime in which the Thought Police disagrees with. Even though it may be a minor one. Even the tiniest facial expression that would reveal opposed feelings towards the government could get him captured by the Thought police. He questions and is contemplative about why the government is as it is, and wishes it were like before. He remembers how life was and tries to change it back.
             He is tired of the control the society has so he rebels against it. His first act of rebellion was to keep a diary and write in it. Although this act is not officially illegal, it could get him captured, and get him a death penalty if the Thought Police were to find out. Then he starts a sexual relationship with Julia, a young and beautiful lady. Having this kind of relationship is suicidal but they do it anyway knowing that the Thought Police would get him sooner or later. They do this to rebel against the Party. But they form a deeper love and continue the relationship. And promise to stay together no matter what happens. They soon are found by the Thought police and are captured. They are
            
             sent to the Ministry of Love where they are separated from each other. They admit their sins and crimes there.
