Macbeth

"Macbeth is a villain in whom there is little to admire'. Do you think this is a satisfactory comment on Macbeth? Macbeth is a character that we cannot class as simply a villain. His worthy characteristics also include being virtuous, brave and mighty as he fearlessly fights in battle. Although he commits foul acts this man is not purely evil. This can be proven as he cannot sleep and eat well and suffers from a guilty conscience right from the time he first murdered Duncan. His main or only flaw which made his nature 'villianous' was due to a character flaw: overriding ambition, which was partly imposed by the three witches and his wife. Even as the tale progresses towards his tragic end Macbeth stands tall and battles it out once again, courageously without fear. We first hear of Macbeth, from the sergeant "for brave Macbeth" Revealing a honourable character, and the use of metaphors describing Macbeth with words as "eagles" and "lions" this is reinforced through the appraisal by King Duncan "O, valiant cousin! Worthy gentleman!" Here in the beginning Shakespeare has revealed to us the true, typical medieval hero. Free of any evil and is loyal and noble as can be. This is important as it adds to the tragedy. Ironical

BreathWhich the poor heart would fain deny and dare not. Macbeth continues "those that we bury back, our monuments Shall be the maws of kites. This again reveals how powerful Lady Macbeth is, as Macbeth had previously had decided strongly he would not commit this terrible feat and yet only moments later is persuaded by her to do so. As Macbeth and companion Banquo returns to Dunsanaine, they are approached by three witches, a symbol of evil to the Elizabethans at that time. "And often times, to win us to our harm,The instruments of darkness tell us truths, Win us with honest trifles, to betray's In deepest consequence"Macbeth unfortunately does not take this into account which leads him to his ultimate downfall. " Macbeth, since very in love with her and through pride commits the deed. They greet Macbeth with:"All hail, Macbeth! hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth! hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth! Thant shalt be king hereafter. She plans to kill Duncan when he comes to celebrate. Lord: "The son of Duncan From whom this tyrant holds"And eventually Macduff and Malcolm seeks revenge and plan to battle it out with Macbeth. " And Banquo, the character in which Macbeth is juxtaposed with gives a word of warning. "Hie thee thither, That I may pour my spirits in thine ear, And chastise with the valour of my tongue" Macbeth at first agrees then reassesses the outcomes and decides against his actions. (which he was already entitled to when he killed the traitor. This is the first evil that invades Macbeth's mind.
