Waiter

Shortly into my senior year I got a job at T.G.I. Fridays as a waiter. This was my first job as a waiter so I really had no idea what I was getting into. My first couple of days they just had me follow around a few of the waiters and waitresses to ge

an idea of the routine they follow. From that point though you are on your own to find the routine that best works for you. I soon found out that it is a job learned mostly by trial and error. When I was first starting, my mom, who is also a waitress,

gave me quit a few helpful hints. After doing this job for nearly a year I know consider myself somewhat of an authority on it.

I soon found out that there is a lot more to waiting tables than I had thought prior to my job experience. I had thought you simply took a persons order and brought there food out to them. This is certainly not the case though. A waiter needs to have

ople skills to not only deal with customers but with fellow employee’s. A waiter must also be organized to quickly and efficiently serve their customers. They must also be knowledgeable on the menu line of the restaurant.

To be a “good” waiter one must provide their patrons with excellent customer service. The incentive to providing good customer se

. . .

What I found to be the most difficult part of waiting was bringing out large amounts of food.

This isn’t a rule written in stone but when I would bring the food out to the customer I would always say what it was aloud to get some indication of whose it was. All that counts in writing the order down is that you can read it, because once an order is taken at Fridays the waiter would have to punch it into the computer anyway. That is if they expect to get a good tip. When I first began I would often times forget if I had brought out a tables food out and sure enough it would still be in the kitchen getting cold. But again, these were the situation where I learned to keep my cool. Some of the advantages included the

ny skills I acquired such as people and organizational skill. This is where the organizational skills come into play. I also hated when a person would tug on your apro

or snap his or her fingers to get your attention rather than merely making eye contact. Money is the main reason the waiter is there in the first place. For example, when I first started out I didn’t know what a lot of the meals consisted of so when people would ask about a menu item I would often times have to go check and that just made me and the restaurant lo

bad. The advantages far outnumbered the disadvantages though. I couldn’t just go up to

customer and say “whadda want. We both got to the table and put down our tray sta

s and when I went to put my tray on it the stupid thing tipped over.
