Research shows that around thirty percent of those over the age of sixty- five are hearing impaired. The article also mentions the risk involved in driving if a senior has several prescriptions of medication that they are to take throughout the day, this could put their lives in danger or some else.
             This article reflects on the stereotype that as one becomes older their driving skills diminish. The article does not present any new dimension of this stereotype, which has been around for years and will be around for many years to come. The article focusses on a issue that will increasingly be a controversial issue as the years come. It also points out a demographic change called "graying of America," which simply means as people live longer, they will continue to want to remain behind the wheel. A good example of this is that of a ninety-six year old man, who despite repeated attempts by his family to stop driving because he kept hitting a tree on his property, he decided to chop the tree down than rather surrender his license.
             Studies have shown that for an elderly person who in most cases has been driving a lot throughout their life, to have to give up their license is very traumatic, following closely behind is the loss of independence it entails. In my own family I have two grandfathers that depend a great deal on their license for their own independence and mobility, but also for others that depend on them. On the other hand, the reality is there are some seniors that should not be behind the wheel of a car, due to the demographics( ie. aging population) neither this problem nor this stereotype will cease...
