Trouble in the Head

             Feeling sad, empty, discouraged, tearful, and lost of interest or a pleasure that once was enjoyable. World's most serious mental aliment that affects the brain, the mind, and the body (Hales, 103). "But for as many as 10.3 percent of Americans, the National Co morbidity Survey, found that major depression is affected any given day, week and year" (Hales 104). For such people, work, friends, family, and activities are replaces by a mental world of sadness and tears. Those with depressive disorder suffer many mental problems and without help can lead to suicides.
             Stress-related events may trigger half of depressive episodes; great trauma in childhood can increase vulnerability to depression later in life (Hales 103). "Individuals who develop major depression in adolescence are at especially high risk of suffering recurrences in young adulthood" (Hales 104). Major depression can destroy a person's way of living. Food, friends, sex or any form of pleasure no longer appeals to them. It is impossible to concentrate on work and responsibilities. "Unable to escape a sense of utter hopelessness, depressed individuals may fight back tears throughout the day and toss and turn through long, empty night" (Hales 105). Thoughts of death or suicide may push into their minds.
             There are many types of depressions just as there are many types of cancer (Strong 232). Some depressions are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. The first of the three types of depressions is major depression. Major depression interferes with one's ability to do normal everyday activities, suck as work, sleep and eating (Strong 230). A less severe type of depression is dysthymia-which cause mood swings, but does not disable a person from their everyday lives (Strong 219).
