Euthanasia

He is better known as Inmate #284797 in the Smi Correctional Facility, Michigan.
In 1999 he was stripped of his medicine practicing license, arrested, trialed and convicted. He was sentenced to 7 years in jail. His charge: Euthanasia or Physician Assisted Suicide.
As controversial as abortion, homosexuality or death penalty, Euthanasia is originated from Greek language, Eu means ¡§Good¡ and Thanatos means ¡§Death¡. Usually Euthanasia means that the person who wishes to commit suicide must explicitly request the act. But some expand this word to contain the involuntary termination of life.
Although the final outcome is death, we must be able to differentiate between different forms of euthanasia.
#1 Passive Euthanasia: it is the process of hastening the death of a terminally ill patient by eliminating any kind of life support given to him and eventually letting nature take its course. This is done by several methods, for example
             „« Removing life support equipment.
             „« Halting any medical procedure.
„« Not delivering any form of resuscitation in case of cardiac arrest.
These procedures are mostly performed on patients in a vegetative state or coma¡K
#2 Active Euthanasia: or commonly known as physician assisted suicide. In this case the patient usually asks close relatives, friends or physicians to terminate his life. The physician could respond to his appeal by giving him a lethal dose of painkillers or a supply of monoxide carbon gas (Co).
Now you might be wondering why would someone with a sane state of mind want to commit suicide? There are several reasons that would push some people to take this ultimate sacrifice.
„« They live in an excessive chronic pain and can¡t afford drugs or painkillers.
„« They are in a terminal illness phase and don¡t want to diminish their financial assets by procuring unnecessary often expensive medical care.
